Now that I have prepared you and your dog to have the best possible natural enrichment experience indoors, it is time to provide the list of local Glencoe, Highland Park, Winnetka and other surrounding suburbs’ dog-friendly stores that welcome well-behaved pups. We hope you go, enjoy, and both have a great time!
The List of Dog-Friendly Stores to Visit for Natural Enrichment
To create this list, I initially posted on Nextdoor to find out from neighbors which retail stores allow dogs. The following is a list I compiled from both places I’ve been with a dog and from people who responded to the post. I excluded pet stores. Pet stores might seem like an obvious place to bring dogs. It’s often not the case. Many pet stores have in store vets, groomers, various animals, or a lot of food and toys your dog can’t have. The sights, sounds, and smells can be overstimulating, overwhelming. The following list might have a pet department in the store, but the store isn’t entirely a pet store. Whether or not to go into a pet store with your dog depends. Start somewhere else and see how that goes.
The following, alphabetical by suburb list was created in late 2024. Store policies may have changed since then. You might check before you go with your dog.
Deerfield or Glenview
- Hobby Lobby, Deerfield, https://www.hobbylobby.com/stores/search/195
- Home Depot, Large indoor area, you might be able to find a quiet enough section of the store. The Garden Center in the fall and winter can be a nice place to go: not many people, outdoors and somewhat sheltered. The Garden Center might be too crowded sometimes, especially in the spring and summer, for some dogs.
